Sugar Cookies

February 22, 2008

If you’re looking for an easy, delicious sugar cookie, you can stop right here!  This one doesn’t taste like flour (hallelujah!), and is perfect for rolled or drop cookies.  My cousin Steph (actually, my husband’s cousin’s wife, if you want to get technical) shared this recipe with me a million years ago.  It’s still my favorite!

Sugar Cookies

  • 1 c butter, softened
  • 2 c sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 5-6 c flour
  • ½ tsp salt

  1. Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, beat well.
  2. Add sour cream, vanilla, and almond extract.
  3. Stir in dry ingredients. Add more flour as necessary.
  4. Wrap in plastic, chill until firm enough to roll, about 2 hours.
  5. Roll out to ½ in thick.  Cut with desired cookie cutters.
  6. Bake on greased or parchment-lined cookie sheet at 350˚ for 10–14 minutes, or when edges are just beginning to brown. Do not overcook.
  7. Makes 2 to 3 dozen cookies.
  8. Store in the fridge for a few days, or the freezer for a month.

  • ½ c butter (very soft)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 pound powdered sugar (about 4 cups)
  • 4 tbsp sour cream (or yogurt)

Add all ingredients to a mixer bowl and beat until fluffy.  Spread on cookies.

For these flower cookies, I didn’t roll them out or dirty any cookie cutters!  Click HERE for the instructions…you won’t believe how easy it is!
