Pizza Dough

September 30, 2008

I’ve tried lots of dough recipes over the years, and this is my favorite! I got it out of the newspaper (when they featured Jenny Stanger). I also found it on her website. She also has instructions for making a frozen pizza. I haven’t tried it, but when I actually have some room in my freezer, I think I will.

1 T yeast
1 c hot water (95-100 degrees)
1 T oil
3 c flour
1 t salt
1-1/2 t oregano
1 t garlic salt

In mixer bowl, add yeast, water, and oil. Let yeast activate (about 5 minutes). Add dry ingredients and combine. Knead for 8-10 minutes, dough should be elastic. [At this point you can even freeze the dough (up to 6 months) if you’re not going to use it immediately. Defrost in microwave for 20 seconds.] Cover in oiled bowl, lest rest for about an hour. Roll out for crust. Grease pizza pan and sprinkle with cornmeal, place crust. Poke with fork and bake at 500 for 4-5 min. Remove from oven, top as desired, and return to oven for 10-15 more minutes.
