Wassail

January 11, 2010

This officially ends the posting of 2009 Thanksgiving recipes. This is the wassail we drank growing up. Holiday comfort drink.

1 gallon apple cider
2 cinnamon sticks
10 whole cloves
2 t whole allspice
1/2 c lemon juice
1 1/2 c orange juice concentrate
1 c pineapple juice concentrate
1/4 c honey (optional)
Put spices in a spice bag and boil with the apple cider for 5 mins. Allow spices to steep for 15 minutes, then remove. Add remaining ingredients, heat through, and serve.
Serves 20
*I wasn’t about to shell out 6 bucks for a tiny (you know, the kind that are an inch tall) bottle of whole allspice. If you can even find it whole. I just used some ground allspice.
*I also don’t have spice bags, so I got a thin, very clean rag, cut a square out, and used that for my spices.
*I served mine in a crockpot, but growing up my mom would leave it in the stock pot on low heat.
