How to make brown sugar…for everyone like me who thinks they have plenty of everything in the pantry! Because have you ever been in the middle of a recipe and realized you were out of brown sugar? Even though I usually buy in bulk when I find a great sale, this has happened to me a couple of times…so instead of running to store, I just makes some of my own! I always have sugar and molasses on hand, and in just a few minutes it’s easy to turn it into your very own perfect brown sugar. It’s soft and easy to work with, an even tastes better than the prepackaged brown sugar.
How to make Brown Sugar
Ingredients:
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 Tbsp unsulfured molasses
Directions:
- Add sugar and molasses to a mixer bowl. Mix on medium speed for several minutes, until the molasses is fully incorporated and looks like brown sugar off the store shelf. That’s it!
Notes:
- I’ve made brown sugar with regular granulated white sugar and organic sugar. It just works better with the regular granulated sugar. Organic sugar just has a different consistency when combined with molasses. Its okay for some things, but for general baking, I do prefer using cheap white granulated sugar for this brown sugar recipe.
